Blog-O-Ween! GMX This Weekend!

The Nashville Improv Company has bravely volunteered to do about 16 hours worth of panels at the Geek Media Expo (GMX) this year and I am (perhaps foolishly) blindly following them into battle. We had a smattering of panels last year and it seems that the Geeky, Media-y, Expo-y powers that be liked us a whole bunch. The feeling's mutual, GMX, we love you too!



GMX is this weekend (10/24-10/26) at the Franklin Marriot Cool Springs. Badges at the door are running about $55 for the whole weekend, $45 for two days, and a little less if you want a single day. Last year I saw Darth Vader dancing with Harley Quinn while Hodor DJ'ed; badges are worth every penny.

Here are a couple of the things we'll be doing this year:

• Celebrity Power Hour: We're gonna raise maaaad money for Nashville Cares while you get to interact with all the real, non-us celebrities and we make fools of ourselves (as usual). Friday 8-10pm
• British Panel Show: Is NPR on the weekends just your dang jam? Can you not get enough of those fancy quiz shows and British game shows like "Nevermind the Buzzcocks" and "Would I Lie to You?" This panel's gonna be the best thing ever for you, then. 10-Midnight on Friday
• Improv for Cosplayers: Yeah, you're dressed like Link. Your costume looks pretty great, but can you be Link? We can help get you there, no matter which game/timeline your hero of time comes from. 11-Noon on Saturday
• Stump the Geeks 3: Get your trivia on and see if you can best the nerds that we throw some free shirts on and call improvisers. They may be funny lookin, but they know borderline too much about stuff and things. 1-3pm Saturday
• Comedy Carnival: Come see things that are too wacky and weird to truly describe. The Nashville Improv Company's Comedy Carnival is all sizzle and imaginary steak! 4-5pm Saturday
• Nashville Improv Live! It's GMX's very own Nashville Improv Company shows! We'll be doing some blisteringly fast and furious and silly improvising right before your very eyes, this is not the show to miss! 8-10pm Saturday
• Geek Slam: Hosted by NIC's very own Lacie "Cooking Mama" Madison, come watch some of your favorite characters stab, jab, and barb at each other for a chance to be crowned king (or queen) of the Geek Slam! 11pm-Midnight
• NerdFight: Two nerds enter the octagon, they both leave an hour later pretty sure that Goku could still beat Superman in a fight. Noon-1pm Sunday
• Geektionary: What's a Whovian? What does Khaleesi really mean? Cthulhu r'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn? Come find out all of that stuff! 2-3pm Sunday

We're also going to have a booth set up where we will probably be doing dumb stuff all day long. Stop by and say hi or harass us or argue with us about whether the Hobbit movies are good adaptations!
